Through the Looking Glass

To be useful, depth of field must be accurate. Simply blurring the background in 2D is ineffective when sophisticated 3D background models are being used.

Previzion’s depth of field calculates a depth image of the entire virtual scene, then calculates the circle of confusion for each individual pixel using the actual measured lens focal length, iris, focus distance, and sensor size. This lets the depth of field effect precisely mirror the behavior of a realistic lens.
Immediate Images
As artists know, setting the mood of a scene is a matter of feel. Previzion’s depth effect operates completely in real time with a twist of the focus knob. Since the depth of field effect is calculated using the actual focus distance of the physical lens mounted to the camera, the result is displayed in sync with the live incoming video frames, enabling instant artistic judgment.
