Painter and palette; sculptor and chisel; actor and stage. Like every art form, the moving image requires a fusion of technology and technique. Unlike other art forms, cinematography rests on a technical base that can be arcane in its depth and complexity.

Lightcraft Technology (originally Cinital) was founded in 2003 to bridge these disparate fields, and to create the next generation of cinematic tools. Our team personifies this challenge; each member brings significant achievements in both the artistic and scientific worlds to the company. From sculpture and painting, to the design of the world’s first successful home robot (the iRobot Roomba), the founding team represents the delicate balance required to create worlds not yet realized.

Previzion was created out of frustration with both traditional location based photography and the classic visual effects workflow. Both methods require enormous amounts of tedious work that is more administrative than artistic; acquiring location permits and garbage matting are not the first tasks people associate with cinematography. The result was a virtual set system that achieved on-location portability, real time photorealistic rendering, production quality compositing, and complete camera data capture for post production.

Previzion is at once a tool for automating the laborious, repetitive aspects of visual effects production, and throwing wide the doors on what smaller scale productions can do. Previzion gives directors and cinematographers everywhere a tool that does the heavy lifting of production work.
